This unique series was crafted to empower educators in fostering a sense of belonging across all learning environments. Our program is dedicated to nurturing inclusive learning experiences that encourage authentic self-reflection and active engagement. Through our innovative approach, participants delve into the realm of "difficult conversations" surrounding race, equity, inclusion, and systemic oppression. By immersing yourself in this transformative journey, you will be challenged to not only comprehend the intricate dynamics of race and racism within the educational landscape but also to reshape your teaching practices for a more equitable and inclusive future.

The Institutes provide learning opportunities around educational equity and justice from multiple perspectives. Institutes are delivered through a virtual platform, with opportunities for discussion and resources. The learning is tailored to increase capacity for racial equity leadership among Wisconsin educators and centering belonging for all students.

Registration and Fees

Participation in the Institutes is entirely fee-free. A scholarship, funded through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), has been applied to the administrative and instructional fees.

NOTE: Registering for an Institute will give you access to the entire day (all sessions and presentations). The automated confirmation email will contain ONE Zoom link for the entire day. You may attend as your schedule allows that day.

Registered attendees gain access to session recordings and resources, regardless of their attendance at the live Institutes. Recordings are typically accessible on our online learning platform, within 1-3 business days after the event.

Pre-registration, with a valid email address, is required. The email address provided will be used to send confirmation notices, reminders, and will be used for an invitation to Sutra to allow for participation in further learning activities and sharing of resources.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of participating in these virtual sessions, attendees will:

  • increase racial literacy relevant to the students and families they serve,

  • explore how racism impacts our relationships with each other and with institutions and how societal practices affect our schools and educational system, and

  • engage in learning opportunities that address disparities affecting historically marginalized groups.

Training Format

American Sign Language (ASL) AND Spanish interpreters will be available during each of the sessions.

These sessions will be facilitated online using the Zoom cloud video conferencing platform.

Sutra will also be used to create an online learning experience that fosters a safe space for engagement, sharing, and meaningful conversation.

Wisconsin has faced significant challenges in achieving racial equity, consistently ranking among the states with the highest disparities for Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. A recent publication by COWS: Race in the Heartland sheds light on the "extreme racial disparities" prevalent in Wisconsin.
