Shakti Butler, PhD, is a visionary, wisdom keeper, filmmaker, transformative educator, and activist whose work invites new questions and practices that cultivate conditions for life giving change, repair, and belonging. Her passion is engaging peoples’ perceptions, understanding, and to expand our individual and collective awareness in service to our mutual interdependence. This requires new questions, processes, and practices that enable us, as a species, to align our values and virtues with our actions. Practices that generate deeper internal and external listening, strategic questioning and radical imagination builds connection, collaboration, and wellbeing as we engage in the work of embracing change that is more equitable, uplifting, and sustainable.
Dr. Butler’s lived experiences and beliefs are informed by her roots as a Caribbean mixed race, black person. Her meaning making processes, study of global histories, analysis, embodied repair, and the arts are in service to internal and external systems on behalf of possibilities that yield structural change. Cultural patterns and relationships inform our deeply divided society - particularly around issues of social equity and inclusion. We must do better as members of the human species. The focus of her work is to create spaces that offer deeper relationships anchored in trust, connection, collaboration, and wellbeing to support outcomes for engagement in the work of embracing change that is more just, equitable and uplifting.
